IEC ABSORBER SET WITH HOLDER FOR RADIATION STUDY
A set of 24 absorbers, packed in a stout card box with dividers.
Absorbers are used to study the absorption of radioactive energies. Thicknesses range from tissue paper and very thin aluminium foils for Alpha particle absorption to thicker aluminium foils and plates for Beta particle absorption through to lead plates, up to 12.2mm thick, for Gamma particle absorption.
The effective area of the lead absorbers is approximately 60x60mm. Other absorbers have an effective area of 50mm wide x 55mm high.
Each absorber is numbered and marked with its density in gms/square cm. The Instructions also provide the thickness and density of each absorber.
The Absorber Set includes a spring loaded plunger and base to hold both an absorber and a radioactive source (not provided) so that the absorber and source are always in the same relative positions for reproducible experiments.
Used for comparing and calibrating the penetration strengths of Alpha, Beta and Gamma sources.
