IEC HAND WHIRLING STROBOSCOPE WITH ADJUSTABLE SLITS
Use to study how a stroboscope works. This sturdy plastic hand whirling stroboscope has two 250mm diameter discs that are easily adjusted and locked together to give either 1, 2, 3, 4, 6 or 12 slots in the rotating disc.

In practice the user's finger spins the slotted disc by while looking through a narrow slit in the stationary disc to view a moving object.

As the slotted disc rotates past the stationary disc/slit the eye sees rapid on/off images of the moving object. If the speed of the disc is correct the image will appear to be stationary or slowly moving forwards or backwards.

If the rotational speed of the disc is known and the number of slits is known, the speed of the moving object can be calculated. The rotational speed of the disc can be easily measured using a photogate, rotary motion sensor or similar device.

Complete with a 300mm rail with a viewing slit each end for two observers.
