KIDWIND DRIVETRAIN SET
Connect a wind turbine hub to a nacelle with a drivetrain set.
The KidWind Drivetrain Set features the hex driveshaft, Hub Quick Connect, hex locks and wooden spool used in the KWA0012 Advanced Wind Experiment Kit. These materials can be very helpful if you are designing your own turbine for a science fair or classroom experiment.

The attached Hub Quick Connect makes it a breeze to interchange hubs and rotor designs on a geared or weight-lifting wind turbine.

Note: This set will NOT work with the Basic Wind Experiment Kit Weightlifter Nacelle.

Activities:
• Work with KidWind Hub and gears
• Build an experimental wind turbine
• Replace parts for the KWA0012 Advanced Wind Experiment Kit

Concepts:
• Exploring energy transformations
• Understanding ratios
• Understanding simple machines
• Understanding the relationship between energy and forces
• Understanding forces and motion
• Developing and using physical models
• Optimising designs

Materials included:
• 1 x Hex Lock
• 1 x Spool Hourglass 3/8" Drilled
• 1 x Hex Shaft 205mm with Hub Quick Connect

Specifications:
•Size of hexagonal driveshaft: 9/64 in.

FAQs:
Q Will the driveshaft bend on my wind turbine?
A Probably not! This driveshaft is made from Allen wrench steel so it is super strong!

Q Will this drivetrain work with the wind turbine hub?
A Yes, the hub is designed to interface with the attached Hub Quick Connect.

This product is used in teaching these Australian Curriculum codes:
ACSSU190 - Physical Sciences - Energy Conservation - Energy conservation in a system can be explained by describing energy transfers and transformations
ACSSU219 - Physical Sciences - Alternative Energies - Energy from a variety of sources can be used to generate electricity
ACSSU117 - Physical Sciences - Forces and Machines - Change to an object’s motion is caused by unbalanced forces, including Earth’s gravitational attraction, acting on the object
ACSSU155 - Physical Sciences - Energy Forms - Energy appears in different forms, including movement (kinetic energy), heat and potential energy, and energy transformations and transfers cause change within systems
ACSSU182 - Physical Sciences - Energy Transfer - Energy transfer through different mediums can be explained using wave and particle models
