KIDWIND BASIC TURBINE BUILDING PARTS
Supplied in a sealable bag, the KidWind Hub, a motor/generator and 25 dowels are the bare-bones components to build your own experimental wind turbine. This package is great for students who don't want a ready-made wind turbine tower and base and is great for educators who want an affordable way for each of their students (or student groups) to do hands-on experiments with wind power.

With the Basic Turbine Building Parts, you can:
Build a D.I.Y. wind turbine. The hub attaches to the motor/generator. Students build their own blades (not supplied), attach them to the dowels and insert the dowels into the hub for experimentation. The DC motor/generator produces electricity when it spins.

Concepts:
• Exploring energy transformations (Design, build and evaluate devices that convert one form of energy into another form of energy)
• Understanding renewable energy
• Learning about circuits, electricity and magnetism
• Understanding the relationship between energy and forces
• Understanding the relationship between forces and motion
• Understanding angles
• Exploring concepts of lift, drag and torque
• Developing and using physical models
• Understanding differences between energy and power
• Designing controlled experiments
• Optimising designs
• Analysing data

FAQs:
Q How many blades can I build?
A The hub has 12 holes so you can experiment with any number of blades up to 12 (2, 3, 4, 6 or 12 work well!)

Q How can I build a simple PVC pipe tower for my wind turbine?
A Check out the Instruction Manual Download PDF for instructions on building the PVC tower.

ACSSU190 - Physical Sciences - Energy Conservation - Energy conservation in a system can be explained by describing energy transfers and transformations
ACSSU219 - Physical Sciences - Alternative Energies - Energy from a variety of sources can be used to generate electricity
ACSSU117 - Physical Sciences - Forces and Machines - Change to an object’s motion is caused by unbalanced forces, including Earth’s gravitational attraction, acting on the object
ACSSU182 - Physical Sciences - Energy Transfer - Energy transfer through different mediums can be explained using wave and particle models
