KIDWIND SIMPLE HAND GENERATOR
The KidWind Simple Hand Generator (simpleGEN) is an easy-to-build AC generator that allows students to explore the basics of electrical generator design.

With the simpleGEN you can demonstrate Faraday’s law, light LEDs and perform experiments that explore how coils, magnets and rotation affect electrical generation. With some quick modifications, you will also be able to convert your generator to a simple motor and explore additional variables.

With this kit you can:
• Build your own generator
• Generate electricity
• AC power output
• Light LEDs
• Compare different designs (coils, magnets, spinning)
• Measure voltage output
• To experiment with wind powered electricity generation you could mount the assembled generator on
these options which are NOT SUPPLIED:-
     • A KidWind shaft and hub with blades or
     • A KidWind tower

Concepts:
• Understanding clean energy
• Exploring energy transformations
• Understanding relationship between energy and forces
• Developing and using physical models
• Collecting data with advanced tools
• Analysing and interpreting data
• Using mathematics to explain and understand data
• Designing controlled experiments
• Optimising designs

FAQs:
Q How much power can you make?
A Using a drill to spin the driveshaft and over 100-150 turns of wire, you will be able to light an LED and produce close to 2V at 20-50mA.

Q Does this kit come with a tower?
A No. We recommend attaching it to a table with a clamp.

Q Is this kit pretty simple?
A Yes! KidWind wanted to make a very simple, rugged generator that would demonstrate the basics.
